A Prison Warder  based at the Prison Headquarters is among three arrested over the suspicion of irregular SIM swap and SIM Card registration.

The three suspects were arrested following the conclusion of an investigation that has been going on for quite sometime.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Constable Charles Opollo Ndaga was arrested within the Sinapanga Estate in Bondo.

Detectives recovered over 10 thousand Safaricom Sim Cards registered under different names at the suspect’s house.

They also recovered two Equitel SIM Cards, three Identity Cards, a laptop, several mobile phones, a cheque book among other items.

Siaya County Police Commander Mr. Francis Kooli who spoke to journalists after the arrests said the matter needs an in-depth investigation involving the cyber-crime and banking fraud units to effectively unearth the criminal activities that jabe dodged cops for a while.

Mr. Kooli stated that preliminary investigations indicate that some cards were being used to acquire loans from banks and micro-finance institutions without the knowledge of their owners.

He has therefore encouraged the members of the public to be vigilant urging them report any suspicious transactions that they detect in their sim cards.

The suspects have been placed under lawful custody pending his arraignment.
