President Uhuru Kenyatta has answered the land question CS Farida Karoney

Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney has attributed the on-going reforms in the land sector to the monumental support from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In her speech during the issuance of title deeds to residents of Embakasi, Korogocho, Tassia and Mbagathi at KICC in Nairobi on Friday, CS Karoney thanked the President for offering financial and technical support to her docket and the National Titling Program resulting in the issuance of 5 million title deeds across the country in the last 8 years, against 6 million title deeds issued during the reign of the past three presidents.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Lands, I would like to thank you, Your Excellency, for the immense support – in form of finances and resources – that you have accorded us resulting in the successes that we have recorded as a Ministry. Every financial year, you have increased the amount allocated to the National Titling Programme thus leading to an increase in the number of title deeds processed and issued to land owners across the country.

“When you took office in 2013, you promised to address the land question and true to your word you have provided the land answer by resolving land issues in Kenya. We have so far issued 5 million title deeds, against 6 million issued in the last 50 years since independence; and we are working on issuing even more in the coming months,” she said.

The Cabinet Secretary further lauded the Ministry’s Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri, Chief Administrative Secretary Gideon Mung’aro, the Nairobi County Government led by Governor Mike Sonko, Nairobi Metropolitan Services led by Major General Mohamed Badi, Directors and other staff at the Ministry of Lands for working cordially and tirelessly to ensure the success of the Nairobi Titling Programme which has so far seen 176,000 title deeds issued from 2013 to date.

She further promised to work hard to ensure the success of Coast-based Rapid Results Initiative programme and the titling programme for Northern Kenya region.

“We assure you, on behalf of Ministry of Lands officials, that we will work diligently to ensure we reform the land sector,” remarked CS Karoney.

In his speech, the President said he would not be deterred by dissenting voices opposed to his titling programmes but will instead focus on ensuring bona fide land owners receive valid title deeds.

He urged land owners not to sell their land but instead invest in properties that would earn them decent income for years to come.

The event was also attended by Governor Sonko and NMS Director General Major General Mbadi.
