Police say five suspects were involved in the murder of 4 family members in Kiambu

Details have emerged on how assailants made their way into the home of U.S-based businessman Nicholas Njoroge Warunge and murdered everyone they found.

Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters believe there were at least five attackers, as they continue piecing together bits of evidence they gathered from the Karura Ka Murimu home.

On day two of investigations on Thursday, detectives led by Head of Homicide Investigations Department at the DCI Martin Nyuguto pitched camp at Karura Ka Murimu village of Kiambu County, spending more than five hours inside, to explore leads that will lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects behind the brutal murders of four family members.

According to the investigators, the absence of any form of forced entry or exit in the razor wire that surrounds the compound shows the killers were well known to the family.

It is believed that they made their way into the house through the rear door, where they found Anne Njoroge, the wife of slain businessman Nicholas Njoroge Warunge, and hacked her to death before slitting her throat.

The commotion in the kitchen drew the attention of the second victim, Maxwell Njenga, Warunge’s 13-year-old nephew, who was accosted along the corridor; he suffered deep cuts on the head and a slit throat.

In his bedroom at the time was Warunge’s son, Christian Njenga, who detectives say was killed and his throat slit on his bed; the 13-year-old celebrated his birthday on December 26, 2020.

Investigators believe that Warunge was in the master bedroom upstairs at the time of the attack, he made his way to the balcony and jumped down where they caught up with him and stabbed him several times and left him for the dead.

While no one knows who they are, they left behind crucial leads chasing after the defenseless Warunge; bare foot prints from the rear door all the way to the spot Warunge is believed to have been stabbed, and all the way back, belong to at least two people.

Investigators will be seeking to match them to any suspect who will be arrested. It is suspected that at least five people were involved in the brutal murders that also saw James Kinyanjui, a mason, killed in cold blood in this house.

The whereabouts of Warunge’s eldest son, Lawrence Warunge, a university student, is yet to be established as sources privy to the investigations revealed to Citizen TV that his phone was tracked to Naivasha before going off.

Post mortem examinations on the bodies of the five are expected to be conducted on Monday.

No suspect has been arrested yet in connection to the murders.
