Police recover suspected explosive devices in Kwale house

Police in Kwale raided a house on Friday where seven suspected terrorists were hiding.

The youths were hiding in an isolated two roomed house in Pungu Village within Ng’ombeni location, Matuga Sub-County.

Kwale police commander Tom Odero however said the suspects escaped during the raid.

The officers still managed to recover materials that they suspect were being used to radicalise youths in the area.

They include journals, Islamic books, items for assembling an improvised explosive device (IED) as well as military jackets and boots.

Other items were electrical wires, machetes and soldering wires.

The county police boss ordered for the demolition of the house as the war on terror intensifies.

“We are working with the locals to pursue the matter and apprehend the owner of the house,” he said.

Odero added that a contingent of security officers are still in pursuit of the suspects assuring local residents that security agencies are in control of the situation.

He urged them to provide relevant information that will help nab the suspects.

Security forces have intensified their clamp down on radical networks behind a series of attacks at the Kenyan Coast linked to al-Shabab.
