Police probing man’s death at a Kirinyaga lodging

Police in Kirinyaga County are probing the death of a middle-aged man at a lodging in Ndia, Kirinyaga County on Friday evening.

According to Mr. Daniel Kangangi, Kagio town’s Nyumba Kumi Chairman, the caretaker discovered the man’s body at around 9:30 pm.

“The caretaker is my brother. When he called me I informed officers based at Kagio Police station,” Mr. Kangangi said.

The caretaker, Mr. Harrison Murimi, said the man had booked a room at around 1pm and was later joined by an unidentified woman who later went missing.

“We only charge Ksh. 300 but we don’t ask for personal details. The only thing I can remember is the lady had a red dress,” Mr. Murimi said.

Police had a hard time controlling the crowd that gathered to catch a glimpse of the deceased.

Officers said they are looking for the woman but warned caretakers in Kirinyaga county to be wary of taking in customers without getting their details.

“The man is unknown because management never took their personal details,” a senior police officer said.

The body has been moved to the Kutus Funeral home Kutus pending further investigations.

In January this year, another middle-aged man was found dead inside a lodging in Maua, Meru County.

Reports indicated that the man had  spent the previous evening at a popular pub in the company of two women, whom he then proceeded with to the lodging.

When police officers visited the scene on Tuesday morning, they discovered the man’s naked body on the bed.

There were also used condoms in a bin, but his two female companions were nowhere to be seen.

His body was taken to the Nyambene Funeral home.
