Police officer shoots dead colleague, turns gun on himself in love triangle

A police officer in Kirinyaga County shot and killed another officer before turning the gun on himself in what is suspected to have been a love triangle gone sour.

According to a report filed at the Wang’uru Police Station, Police Constable Kering Kipkosgei was having supper with his girlfriend, Sergeant Esther Muthoni Mwangi, and her children at the Mwea GK Prisons staff quarters when Corporal Boniface Mithamo stormed in.

Corporal Mithamo, who is Sergeant Muthoni’s ex-husband, then started quarrelling Constable Kipkosgei demanding to know what he was doing in the house.

He is then said to have attacked Constable Kipkosgei and removed his shirt in the process before Sergeant Muthoni separated them and escorted Corporal Mithamo outside the house.

Constable Kipkosgei went to the kitchen where he withdrew his firearm, a Ceska pistol, and shot Corporal Mithamo on the right side of the neck and the bullet exited on the left side of the head.

Upon realizing that he had killed Corporal Mithamo, the police report seen by Citizen Digital stated, Constable Kipkosgei then ran outside and shot himself on the head.

The two were rushed to Karira Mission Hospital where they were pronounced dead and their bodies transferred to the same facility’s mortuary awaiting post-mortem as investigations continue.
