Police in Homa Bay probing death of 4-year-old reportedly beaten to death by his mum

Police in Ndhiwa sub county, Homa Bay have launched investigations into the mysterious death of a 4-year-old boy Leon Bahati at Ochol village.

According to his mother,  the boy had fallen off a tree on Saturday.

However, detectives following up on the matter were reportedly told the child was beaten to death by his mother.

Area Chief Daniel Opanda confirmed the incident, saying the matter was reported by the area village elder who rushed to the home with two police officers.

They found the boy’s bruised body in the house.

Upon interrogation, the boy’s mother said Bahati had fallen off a tree the previous day and that he succumbed to injuries later in the night.

The deceased’s siblings however told a different version, saying Bahati has been beaten up by their mother after stealing food.

They said he went silent and limp moments later.

The area chief says the boy’s father had not questioned the cause of death when he got home that evening, instead he made quick arrangements for a burial saying he could not afford mortuary fees.

Ndhiwa Sub County Police Commander Robert Aboki said both parents were questioned as probe into the matter continues.

The body was moved to the Manyata Kobodo funeral home pending an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
