Over 50 Siaya County staff sent on compulsory leave
Siaya County Government has sent over 50 staff from the Finance Department on compulsory leave.
This follows a directive issued by Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga during Madaraka Day celebrations.
Rasanga had ordered that all officers in the procurement, finance and public works departments be subjected to fresh vetting in a bid to weed out corruption.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, a section of the affected employees said that their letters were issued after a closed-door meeting.
The meeting, that lasted over 2 hours, was chaired by the Siaya County Executive Committee member for Finance Joseph Warega.
The Siaya Governor, through the Chief of Staff Walter Okelo, indicated that the process is part of the County Executive’s latest efforts to ‘sanitise’ the department.
According to him, the Finance and Planning Department was breeding inefficiency in the Siaya County Government administration.
The affected officers will be vetted afresh before they are allowed back to work, Mr. Okelo said.
