One Kenya Alliance members to hold crucial meeting in Naivasha

Caught up in the dilemma of the mode of selecting the coalition’s flag-bearer the One Kenya Alliance members are once again set to retreat to review the report of a 12-member technical committee tasked with finding a workable strategy.

Sources intimate that for the next two days, the coalition’s principals and their respective parliamentary group members will receive the report which will set in motion the coalitions program.

The report entails a SWOT analysis of each candidate and the possible scenarios that would guarantee victory in the 2022 polls.

The proposed new coalition names and symbols, the coalition’s constitution, manifesto and campaign strategy will also be included in the report.

The coalition agreement details on power sharing and the mode of choosing the flag bearer will also be unveiled.

Besides issues on the structure of the coalition, the contentious subject of working with ODM leader Raila Odinga after their bitter fallout in NASA will also be on the table.

The four party leaders are expected to review a proposal by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week in Mombasa to reunite the former allies.

While KANU’s Gideon Moi is said to be willing to work with Odinga,Wiper Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula are said to be reluctant and would only work with Odinga if he joins the coalition on their terms…

President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to be keen on bringing the leaders together and crafting a united line up to face it off with friend-turned-foe Deputy President William Ruto.

“Kuna wengi watakuja na hata slogans nyingi mzuri yakuwapendeza lakini muwe na subira, NARC tuliunda 6 months to the election, PNU 6 months to the election, na sahii mnaona zimekuwa nyingi, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa said.

Kieni member of parliament Kanini Kega who revealed that he would be attending the Naivasha meeting defended President Kenyatta’s resolve to unite all the presidential hopefuls saying it would deter violence in the next polls.

“There are people who are agitated that there are people who are congregating, there is nothing wrong with people coming together, if they can agree on one person who is formidable who will unite the country so be it there should be no person castigating the effort of the president to bring the leaders together,” the Kieni MP said.

With coalitions now seen as the ticket to forming a government, the pattern witnessed in the country in past elections have shown that most have been shrouded with mistrust and dishonesty and as one Kenya Alliance digs the foundation for its house, it will be interesting to see how they will navigate the coalition challenges.
