One dead, 43 injured after bus overturns in Siaya

One person was killed and 43 others injured after a Nairobi-bound bus was involved in an accident on the Siaya-Luanda Road in Siaya County on Sunday morning.

Siaya County Traffic Commissioner Margaret Kariuki said the accident, which claimed the life of a young girl, took place at Ayora farm, after the bus christened Climax Coaches veered off the road before overturning.

“The injured passengers have all been rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital while the body of the deceased has also been taken to the hospital’s mortuary awaiting post mortem,” said Ms. Kariuki.

Siaya County Director of Health Dr. Omondi Owino said two passengers sustained serious injuries.

“Out of the forty three passengers who were injured, two have been rushed to the theatre for further treatment,” said Owino.

The bus was towed to Siaya Police Station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
