ODM distances itself from Babu Owino after gun saga

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has distanced itself from the Babu Owino shooting incident.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna expressed his dismay saying the party’s concern is with the victim.

“Matters of alleged criminal conduct are beyond the realm of a political party. The law enforcement agencies are in charge.

“The ODM party is subordinate to the law of the land. Our concern at the moment is with the victim of this extremely unfortunate incident,” the ODM statement reads.

Babu Owino is one of ODM’s most vocal legislators and enjoys a close relationship with the party leader Raila Odinga.

In the past, Owino who has been in and out of police custody, received support from the ODM party officials and legislators alike.

However, in his latest run-in with the law, even his closest political allies appear to want nothing to do with him.

Earlier on Friday, lawyer Cliff Ombeta claimed that his client was approached by an aggressive crowd which is what led to the shooting.

However, CCTV footage believed to be from B Club shows a man believed to be Babu Owino firing at a lone individual.

The victim who has been identified as DJ Evolve- the club’s resident disc jockey—was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and operated on.
