NYS deputy boss in trouble for flouting procurement law

The Deputy Director General National Youth Service (NYS) has been charged with two counts; abuse of office and willful failure to comply with the Public Procurement Act.

It is alleged that on or about September 26, 2016, Claire Cheddah Lwali, at NYS headquarters in Ruaraka within Nairobi County, being a person employed in the public service as Deputy Director General NYS, used her powers to improperly confer a benefit to Naro Moru River Lodge.

It is alleged that Cheddah, through a commitment letter, acquired accommodation and conference facilities at Ksh 4,476,000 without approval of the Ministerial Tender Committee.

She denied the allegations before the Anti-Corruption Court Principal Magistrate, Lawrence Mugambi.

She was released on Ksh 600,000 cash bail with alternative bond of Ksh 1 million with one surety of the similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on November 29, 2016.
