By Chrisphine Otieno
Students of Mwongori Mixed Secondary School in Borabu constituency, Nyamira County, are counting losses after a fire outbreak razed down one of their dormitories on Monday morning, destroying property worth millions.
No casualties were reported from the fire incident that destroyed a girls’ dormitory as students were assembled for their morning lessons.
Confirming the incident, Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Michael Lesman said police had began investigations involving different stakeholders, including the Kenya Power Lighting Company (KPLC), to establish the cause of the fire.
According to Mr. Lesman, the fire destroyed property estimated at Ksh.1.5 million and affected 43 students, majority of whom are this year’s KCSE candidates.
He further assured the affected students of plans to provide them with alternative accommodation for the time being.
