Nurse arrested in Rongo over two-month-old baby stolen from hospital

Two women accused of stealing a two-month-old baby in Rongo are in police custody pending further investigation.

Rongo sub county police Commander Peter Okiring said the prime suspect is a nurse who works it a private health facility in Kisii.

She was arrested on Monday this week when she went to seek medication for the baby at a private hospital in Rongo.

Mr. Okiring said the second suspect was tracked by police after they established that she was in constant communication with the main suspect.

He said the two were arraigned in court on Thursday but did not take plea because the prosecution asked for more time to conclude the investigation.

The sub county police commander said they are still pursuing more suspects linked to the child theft syndicate.

He said the police will ensure that the case is investigated conclusively and action taken on suspects found guilty.

Mr. Okiring further warned Kenyans against child trafficking.

He said the stolen baby has been moved to a children’s home as they continue with investigations.
