Narok County leaders back DP Ruto for 2022 top seat

A section of Narok County leaders have drummed up support for Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 Presidential race.

This comes even after DP Ruto had previously urged leaders to focus on development instead of succession politics.

Led by Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai, the leaders said they will not be swayed by the recent meeting between opposition leader Raila Odinga and retired president Daniel Arap Moi that reportedly focused on the state of politics in the country.

Speaking during a prayer ceremony for the youth from Narok and Kajiado Counties, Governor Tunai said, “It is now upon us as the Maasai to decide where we will fit into in the next government.”

Kajiado West MP George Sunguya, however, brushed off the Raila-Moi meeting.

“We have no problem with Raila visiting Moi, but the best candidate remains William Ruto and that is where we stand,” he said.

Narok East MP Ken Aramat, on his part, insisted that as Jubilee, they had agreed to give President Uhuru Kenyatta 10 years after which they would fully support DP Ruto, adding that they will not change their minds.

“We, the poor people, are may in this country… and we will decide who takes it in 2022. We hear Raila is walking around shaking hands,” said Aramat.

“We have given President Uhuru Kenyatta ten years, and we had an agreement as Jubilee that we would support William Ruto, we cannot back down.”
