Court to rule on Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter poll case today

Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter will know his fate on Wednesday after he appealed the nullification of his August 2017 poll victory.

Hundreds of his supporters and those of the petitioner Bernard Kitur are camped outside the Eldoret High Court in anticipation of the ruling.

Police in full anti-riot gear are also patrolling parts of the town ahead of the judges decision slated for 2:30pm.

The Court of Appeal Judges who will deliver the ruling are Erastus Githinji, Fatuma Sijale and Anna Okwengu.

Lawyer Otiende Amollo for Keter had argued that reasons that led to nullification of his client’s victory, that he campaigned beyond stipulated time, were untrue.

However, lawyer Amos Magut for the petitioner, maintained that their case was solid.

Justice Kimondo nullified Keter’s win on March 1 citing election malpractices.

In his verdict, the judge said there was evidence the legislator conducted illegal campaigns outside the stipulated time.

Keter had been declared the winner of the Nandi Hills August poll with 28,923 votes against 13,872 garnered by his rival Kitur.
