Nairobi: Robbery with violence suspect arrested, firearms linked to multiple crimes recovered
Detectives from the Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday announced they have apprehended a
notorious robbery suspect while recovering two firearms believed to be
connected to a string of robberies across several counties.
Ezekiel Kiarie was arrested along Nairobi’s
Limuru Road as he and his family attempted to escape from the city to their
rural home in Dundori, Nyandarua County.
Detectives said they had been
relentlessly pursuing Kiarie following his alleged involvement in a series of
violent robberies.
Kiarie had been evading capture for an
extended period, leaving a trail of fear and destruction in his wake. Acting on
a tip-off, detectives intercepted a Mitsubishi bearing the registration plate
number KAM 231J, believed to be the vehicle used by the suspect in his criminal
activities.
Upon a thorough search, they discovered two
pistols hidden within the vehicle's compartments.
The recovered firearms are suspected to
have been used in various robberies in Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Muranga and
Kajiado counties, escalating concerns about the increasing prevalence of armed
criminal gangs.
Kiarie is currently in custody being
interrogated alongside another suspect identified as David Mwangi alias Mzae in
relation to their crimes awaiting arraignment in court on Thursday.
