Mutua to Uhuru on corruption: Were tired of empty rhetoric, act now

Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to release the names of corrupt senior officials in his government.

Speaking on Monday in Mumbuni North Ward after launching mass distribution of seeds and fertilizer to residents, Governor Mutua said Kenyans are tired of empty rhetoric and now want action.

“I want to tell President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop speaking in parables because he seems to know these (corrupt) people. Kenyans are tired of wild guessing and want to know the names of these thieves,” he said.

The governor also lashed out at a section of politicians who have, in the past, rubbished the war on graft claiming their communities are being targeted.

“Politicians who hurl insults at functions then board choppers back to their fancy offices and steal public funds have a special place in hell,” said Governor Mutua.

“They are senior government officials, we know them. If they are mentioned they say it is their tribes that are being targeted.”

The Machakos county boss further said it is a disgrace for any Kenyan to die of hunger, further urging President Kenyatta to ensure political leaders who swindled funds meant to avert the disaster are arrested and jailed.

“It is a shame on our country today if somebody can sleep hungry, let alone die of hunger, more than fifty years after independence. Nothing is as painful as starving to death,” said Mr. Mutua.

“It is wrong for any Kenyan to sleep hungry or die of hunger in a country that has so many rich people who drive big cars and own tall buildings.”

He stated that his county government’s free ploughing program and free seeds distribution which he begun during his first term had yielded fruits saying Machakos is no longer condemned to perennial food shortage.

Mutua added that it is critical for all relevant government agencies to develop and implement policies geared towards guaranteeing food security for all Kenyans.
