Murgor, Taib & Kihara to provide legal services to ODPP
Three top lawyers have been picked to provide legal services to the office of the public prosecutor as the pressure to deal with crime in the country intensifies.
A statement to newsrooms said former DPP Philip Kipchirchir Murgor, ex-mayor Taib Ali Taib and lawyer James Muruthi Kihara successfully prequalified.
“In a bid to strengthen the capacity of the ODPP and in light of the increasing complexity of crime, the DPP on 25th of September 2018 put out a public advertisement, requesting those interested to apply and be considered for prequalification to join the panel of the ODPP lawyers to provide legal services,” the statement reads.
The ODPP further revealed that only 15 lawyers applied which was a lower number than what was expected.
As a result, the positions will be advertised again in a public advertisement ‘to build a strong portfolio of special prosecutors to assist the DPP.’
The statement comes hours after DPP Noordin Haji revealed that British advocate Khawar Qureshi will only be working on the corruption case against Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
He said three Kenyan lawyers would assist Qureshi on the case that will come up for hearing on Thursday, December 6, 2018, to decide whether criminal proceedings against Mwilu should continue or not.
