MPs, Senators return to parliament after party primaries

Parliament will resume Tuesday afternoon after a month-long recess to allow MPs and Senators to participate in the political parties primaries.

Dozens of MPs and Senators in the August House were, however, defeated in the party primaries and a number of them have already defected from their parties to defend their seats as independent candidates.

Among the notable MPs who were defeated in the party primaries are Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, Kitui Senator David Musila, Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura, Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando, Starehe MP Maina Kamanda among others.

Top on the agenda in the National Assembly ahead of the August 8th General Election will be the passage of the Division of Revenue Bill 2017, approval of mitigation measures to reduce food prices and the resurrection of the Two-Thirds Gender bill.

Parliament will be dissolved on the 15th of June 2017 to pave way for the General Election.
