MP Aisha Jumwa to challenge ODM expulsion in court

Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa says she will move to court to challenge her expulsion from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Jumwa was expelled from ODM on Friday while her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori was spared in the final decision by the party’s National Governing Council.

Speaking in Malindi on Saturday, Jumwa dismissed the decision by the ODM governing council confirming her removal from the party over disloyalty.

“We shall follow the law and all legal procedures to ensure we move to court and file a petition,” said Jumwa.

She further questioned the criteria used by the ODM party to spare Suleiman Dori despite the party’s disciplinary committee also recommending his expulsion.

The two lawmakers were accused of openly supporting and promoting the interests of another political party, following their close and public association with Deputy President William Ruto.

In their defence, they argued that their association with DP Ruto was in line with the Building Bridges Initiative which was a creation of their party leader, Raila Odinga together with President Kenyatta.
