Mother to CS Wakhungu to spend night in jail

Grace Sarapay Wakhungu, mother to Environment Cabinet Secretary, Judy Wakhungu, will now have to spend a night in police custody at the Langata Women’s Prisons after she was unable to raise a one million shillings surety bond awarded to her by the deputy registrar.

This was after she was arraigned in court over an alleged unpaid bank loan amounting to 10 million shillings.

Sarapay was nabbed while attending a wedding on Wednesday afternoon August 17, 2016 in Westlands, Nairobi following an arrest warrant issued earlier.

She appeared before deputy registrar’s Commercial Court in Milimani, Nairobi and was put to task to explain why she should not be jailed for failing to settle a bank debt.

In a case filed against her in 2014 by Middle East Bank Kenya Limited seeking the court to compel her to pay the debt, the bank complained that the woman has been stubborn and has never shown interest to pay.

The court has now directed her to settle the debt in one week time or she be committed to a civil jail. She was given a Ksh 1 million surety bond.

The case will be mentioned on August 24, 2016.
