Mombasa Port case takes new twist as CJ Maraga roped in

Chief Justice David Maraga is expected to select a team that will hear and determine a petition seeking to place Mombasa port under the county government.

Mombasa High Court Judge Erick Ogola made the ruling on Tuesday saying the issues raised by the petitioners are weighty and of great public interest.

“If the matter is heard and determined in favour of the County Government of Mombasa by the High Court then it will have powers to take over revenue that is collected at the port,” part of the ruling reads.

The petitioners Asha Omar, Gerald Kiti and William Ramogi were represented by their lawyer Nyambura Kihoro.

The three were seeking an order to have the national government restricted in regulating the Mombasa port.

According to them, the County Government should manage the Mombasa port operations.
