Missing JKUAT student found murdered

A student from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) main campus who has been missing was on Tuesday morning found dead, in what is suspected to be murder.

The body of Tabitha Kitaa Kiiti was found outside one of the hostels named ‘Oasis’ near the campus Gate C.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Jomo Kenyatta Students’ Association (JKUSA) President Ibrahim Boru Shalle said Kitaa was last seen on Saturday at around 6:30am after a night out with friends at a popular joint in Thika.

“On Friday night, she went on a rave with friends to a club in Thika called Blend. They left at about 6am and boarded a matatu back to Juja,” said the student body boss.

“When they arrived in Juja, Kitaa refused to alight from the bus and her friends had to force her off. However, soon as they got out of the matatu – having let her go – and were crossing the road, they looked back and noticed her going after the matatu and back inside.”

Aboki Hesbon, the student body Academic Secretary said her friends had recorded statements at the Juja Police Station.

Linet Kerubo, the deceased’s best friend who was with her on the day of the night out, said there was nothing they could do when they realised she had already boarded the bus and it was speeding off.

When contacted for comment, Juja OCS Ateya Gisemba said the matter is still under investigation, adding “I cannot speak to the press.”

The incident has drawn ire from the student fraternity, with a section of them vowing to take to the streets in what they term as a string of insecurity occurrences in the area.

Students have also accused the area police officers of doing nothing to help the situation despite having received numerous reports of crimes.

Kitaa’s body was moved to the Kenyatta University mortuary awaiting post-mortem results.

This is the second high-profile murder of a student in the area after yet another student, Tim Sydney Aomba, was on May 6, 2018, reported stabbed to death.
