Millie Odhiambo: CS Echesa is delusional
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has hit out at Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa over his recent utterances against opposition chief Raila Odinga.
In a widely circulated video, Echesa is captured accusing Odinga of pushing for his ouster from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet.
Sspeaking on Citizen TV’s Day Break on Monday, Millie Odhiambo termed Echesa’s remarks as “delusional” and “rumor-mongering.”
“Raila Odinga does not appoint anybody in cabinet. And Hon. Echesa is utterly not privy to any discussion between Hon. Raila and the President,” said the legislator.
Echesa’s remarks, which were made at a funeral in Mumias West, come in the wake of speculations of a looming Cabinet reshuffle.
Responding to a question posed by Day Break host Fred Indimuli on the possibility of the former premier influencing the cabinet changes, Millie Odhiambo answered in the affirmative.
“It is a possibility because even when they were discussing the handshake they did not talk to us… so they can be discussing anything under the sun without our involvement and without the involvement of Echesa,” she said.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro also criticized the Echesa’s comments but, however, said he should be mentored and not castigated.
He further urged Echesa to stop “making Raila Odinga an issue” and, instead, focus on development projects in his docket.
“The fact that Raila Odinga shook hands with the President brought peace to this country, so we need to respect Raila Odinga as a statesman,” said Osoro.
“Echesa, as he said himself, is not an equal to Raila Odinga. And when you know you’re not an equal to him, you shouldn’t be making him an issue that the moment you hold the microphone, from the first word to the last word, is Raila Odinga. You should be telling people what you’re supposed to do.”
The MP also added that, if indeed Echesa had a genuine complaint against Raila Odinga, then he should have followed the appropriate steps in addressing it.
