Migori MCAs to spend Ksh5.8M on Dubai trip

Tax payers will have to part with over Ksh5.8 million to a fund a Dubai trip for several members of Migori County Assembly, and this has elicited sharp reactions from members of the public.

16 MCAs are scheduled to travel to the Middle Eastern country on Sunday to learn about waste disposal among other issues.

Elijah Fanuel, a resident of Awendo, expressed his disappointment with the assembly over their decision to plan for such an expensive trip.

According to Fanuel, the county government has spent millions of shillings on unnecessary foreign trips, yet important bills have not been passed for lack of money to finance public participation exercise.

According to audit report for the 2013 -2014 financial year the Migori county assembly spent over 8 million shillings on foreign trips to Canada, Rwanda among other places.

This comes at a time when county administrations are under fire by residents who have asked finance officers to account for the ‘abnormal’ budgetary allocations towards various projects.

Bungoma County is facing sharp criticism over the purchase of ten wheelbarrows at a cost of Ksh109,320 each.

This acquisition sparked outrage with residents and human rights activists terming the purchase as ‘graft of the highest order’.
