Migori MCAs reject Governor Obados county service board nominees

Migori County Assembly on Wednesday rejected a list of six people who were nominated by Governor Okoth Obado to take over as the members of the county public service board after the term for the previous board expired on last month.

The nominees include Former Awendo Member of Parliament Jared Kopiyo, who had been nominated as the Chairperson of the board, Kennedy Ochieng Makasembo, Omwa Hesbon Otieno, Jemima Adhiambo Were, Enock Odhiambo Ochieng and Mwita Range Maroa.

The MCAs rejected the nominees citing lack of diversity in profession and regional balance.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Chair of the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare Christopher Onanda, who tabled the names of the nominees who were vetted by the committee on July 12, said the county assembly members insisted on regional balance and diversity in profession.

Mr. Onanda said the legislators insisted that they want people from other professional backgrounds to be included in the board, after they realised that five out of the six nominees were teachers by profession.

Governor Obado will now have to make fresh nominations and forward the names for vetting by the county assembly.

The rejected team was anticipated to take over from the Peterlis Nyatuga-led board whose term expired on July 25 after serving a six-year term.
