Migori doctors on strike, demand that county enforces CBA

Doctors in Migori county have gone on strike demanding that authorities implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) the move has seen public health services in the region affected.

The doctors have been pushing for the implementation of the CBA that was to be signed on March 1, 2019 which bound the county government to increase pay, allow for study leave and restore dilapidated public health facilities, among other issues.

The medics downed their tools on Thursday and are demanding job promotions, a good working environment and proper medical cover.

The Kenya Medical Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Nyanza region chairperson Kevin Osuri confirmed that the strike is set to include over 52 doctors and that the same had been communicated to Governor Okoth Obado.

Migori county executive committee health (CEC) Dr. Isca Olouch however insisted that the county had implemented most of the doctors demands and requested them to get back to their duties.

Their counterparts in Kisumu County went on a 7-day strike in March that over similar issues.

They claimed that the Kisumu County officials had not shown any commitment in meeting their demands which range from promotions, payments and insurance cover.
