Memorial service for DP Ruto aide Anthony Kariuki held in Nairobi

A memorial service for the late Anthony Kariuki took place in Nairobi on Thursday.

It was held at the PCEA St. Andrews Church, University Way at 12pm. A statement from his colleagues at the Office of the Deputy President reads in part:

“Wherever he spoke, Anto was listened to; not only for what he said, which always moved our thinking on, but also for the way he said it: quietly, utterly without bombast, but with monumental virtuoso. We will forever remember that Anto was a great fun to be with; a veritable Manchester United fanatic. We mourn you, Anto; a person who blended incredible achievement with great personal grace. Go well.”

Mr. Kariuki died on Friday, September 27 on Outering Ring Road. He was crossing the road on his way home in Buru Buru when a tour van hit him.

On Friday last week, DP William Ruto mourned his communications officer as a sharp, dependable, industrious, committed and creative with positive attitude.

According to Africa Check Kenya boss Alphonce Shiundu, the deceased was as a ‘quintessential editor’ who kept him on his toes during his stint at the Nation Media Group.

“When Anto called for an update, you had to send a text and a picture from the scene. There were no any consequences for not sending these promptly. It just felt right to do so. The future was digital,” Mr. Shiundu wrote in the Daily Nation.

He leaves behind a wife Christine Wakio Kariuki and two children.

Burial meetings are taking place at his parents’ home in Kamulu, in Buru Buru and at the All Saints Cathedral from 6pm.

On Friday, the cortege will leave Umash Funeral Home for a funeral service at PCEA Ngundu Church (Kamulu Ruai) and the burial thereafter at the family home.
