Mason rescued from the rubble of a 4-storey building that collapsed in Kisumu on Tuesday

A multi-agency team comprising Red Cross and the National Youth Service (NYS) personnel has rescued one stonemason who had been trapped by the debris of a collapsed building in Kisumu.

The mason was part of 6 others who had been working on the construction of a ill-fated building in Kisumu.

All the workers but 2 had been rescued from the collapsed building by the morning of Wednesday, September 30.

Kisumu County Police commander Ranson Lolmodoni confirmed that a total of 6 masons who were involved in the construction at the site were trapped when the building collapsed.

He says the 6 were sleeping on the ground floor of the building when the incident occurred at around 10pm last night.

Four masons who suffered slight injuries were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital where they were treated and discharged.

They later joined the rescue efforts.

One person is still unaccounted for.
