Mandera Terror Suspects Remanded

The four, identified as Abubakar Gitonga, Maslah Daud Hassan, Musa Daudi and Shukri Abdi appeared before Milimani court presiding Chief Magistrate Enoch Cherono but denied the charges.

The terror attack at the Koromey quarry in December 2014 was carried out by heavily armed assailants believed to be menbers of the Al Shabaab terrorists group.

At the time, Mandera County Police Commander Noah Mwivanda revealed that initial investigations showed that all the quarry workers were all men.

The deceased are reported to have been lined on the ground before being shot at close range.

Four bodies were beheaded while others bore bullet wounds on their heads and chests.

The deceased were non locals who were working at a local construction site in the restive region but no group claimed responsibility of the attacks.

The four have now been remanded after the prosecution objected their release on bond arguing that they are likely to jump bail.

The case will be mentioned Thursday when the court will decide on the bond application by the accused lawyer.
