Man who defiled 13-year-old girl jailed for five years in Rongo

A court in Rongo has sentenced a middle aged man to five years in jail for defiling a 13 year old girl.

Evance Onyango who appeared before Rongo Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat pleaded guilty to defilement.

Onyango was found guilty of violating Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006 which states:

“Any person who commits an indecent act with a child is guilty of the offence of committing an indecent act with a child and is liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term of not less than ten years.”

The convict has 14 days to appeal the judgment.

The convict committed the offence between January 10 and January 19 this year at Nyarombo village, Dede location, Awendo Sub County.

He was arrested on January 19 and first appeared in court on January 22.

According to a police report seen by Radio Ramogi, seven witnesses were presented before the court.

The conviction comes amid concern from stakeholders of rising cases of defilement in Awendo and Rongo sub counties.
