Man killed by explosive at gold mine in Migori

A 37-year-old man died on Sunday evening after an explosive blew up on him at Kehancha gold mine in Migori County.

Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the man, who worked at the mine, was setting up the explosive to break one of the heavy rocks within the mine.

The county police boss said the deceased sustained severe body injuries as a result of the impact from the explosive commonly referred as “Baruti” by the artisanal miners.

The body of the deceased was moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary pending police investigations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nthenge has asked the miners to be cautious while doing their mining activities to avoid such tragic incidences.
