Man gets 5-year jail term for impersonating EACC investigator

A man was on Wednesday sentenced to five years imprisonment after he was found guilty of impersonating an officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi convicted and sentenced Duncan Bunduki Bundi on four counts of impersonating an investigator and extortion by threats.

The accused was arrested on November 26, 2010 for posing as the Head of Investigations at the EACC and soliciting money from members of the public by threatening to charge them with corruption offences.

According to EACC, after Bundi was arrested, he was positively identified as the culprit by three complainants during an identification parade.

The accused was sentenced without the option of fine.

He was jailed for 12 months each on two counts of impersonating an investigator contrary to the law, and 18 months each for two counts of extortion by threats.
