Malanga tanker tragedy: Death toll rises to 19 after two more victims die

Two more people have succumbed to injuries they sustained during the Saturday night petrol tanker explosion in Malanga, Gem.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga said the deaths of the two, who passed on at the Siaya County Referral Hospital on Tuesday night, now brings the total casualties to 19.

Governor Rasanga said 20 people are still admitted at the Siaya County Referral Hospital, 5 at the Yala sub-county hospital, and one more at the Inuka Community Hospital following the incident.

The Siaya County boss, who spoke after visiting survivors on Wednesday, stated that DNA analysis has already begun for identification of the dead bodies which were burnt beyond recognition.

The results, he said, will be out in two weeks, adding that the five patients admitted at the Yala sub-county hospital are all in stable condition.

Governor Rasanga reiterating that the Siaya County government shall waive all hospital bills for the Malanga incident survivors.
