The burial of Prof. Richard Alex Nyabera Magoha is set to continue as planned this Saturday, despite news of a double tragedy hitting the family after the subsequent Tuesday passing on of his brother, former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Albert Magoha.

Prof. Nyabera passed away on December 6, 2022 in Allen, Texas, United States, while Prof. Magoha – on the other hand - died at the Nairobi Hospital on January 25, 2023 after collapsing at his home.

News of the latter’s demise came on the same day the body of the former arrived into the country from the United States.

This double tragedy seemingly put the family in a precarious position of whether to proceed with Prof. Nyabera's final send-off as had earlier been communicated, or to reschedule it in order to have the deceased brothers buried on the same day.

The family on Wednesday however sought to clarify that Prof. Nyabera’s burial date will not be interfered with despite his brother passing on as well.

The U.S-based professor’s obituary, as published in the local dailies recently, read: "The cortege will leave Agha Khan Funeral Home Kisumu, on Saturday 28th January for a memorial requiem mass at Township Primary School Yala at 10:00 am followed by intermitent at his Umiru home in Yala, Gem, Sub-County."

The obituary also describes Prof. Nyabera as a humorous, witty and indulgent individual who had a passion for academic work and politics, and also very good taste for clothes.

The family is however yet to settle on a date for former Education CS Prof. Magoha’s burial.
