Magoha, Mutyambai, Macharia summoned over teachers crisis in North Eastern

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has directed Education CS George Magoha, IG Hillary Mutyambai and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) boss Nancy Macharia to appear before the Education Committee over the ongoing teachers’ crisis in North Eastern.

This was after Wajir West MP Mohammed Ahmed Kolosh questioned why the TSC has been transferring teachers from the North Eastern Region.

The legislator wanted to know whether the commission had consulted the police department before making the transfers that have since greatly affected learning in the region.

“This is a serious matter, I direct that the Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha, the Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai and TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia appear before the Education Committee latest Tuesday next week,” said Muturi, adding that “they must appear in person.”

The Speaker further noted that one department of government cannot be claiming there is security in the country and another transferring their officers because of insecurity.

The Education Committee committed to immediately send out the invites so that the said officers appear and provide answers to the relevant questions on the matter.

Education has been paralyzed in the North Eastern region after TSC transferred teachers following attacks on non-locals by suspected Al Shabaab militants.
