LSK urges expedited probe after advocate Boaz Nyakeri stabbed to death in Nairobi

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) council has urged the relevant security agencies to probe the murder of High Court Advocate  Boaz A. Nyakeri who was reportedly stabbed to death on December 4.

Boaz was allegedly stabbed in the neck by a group of men on Saturday, according to a statement from LSK.

"Mr.Boaz was attacked and stabbed by unknown persons at around 5.30am on 4th December 2021 at a place near Masaai Lodge in Rongai. It is reported that the assailants who seemed to have been trailing him, stabbed him on the neck but did not steal anything from him," said LSK Secretary Mercy Wambua in a statement.

According to reports, Nyakeri was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The council now wants  the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to expedite investigations into the murder.

The LSK has further urged the government to put measures protecting court officials from threats, intimidation or even harm.

"The responsibility placed on advocates as court officials and human rights defenders place them at a relatively higher risk of possible attack by adversaries," reads the statement.

"It is in this regard that we call on the Government to put in place strategies to ensure that advocates, magistrates, judges as well as all court officials are provided with adequate security and protection from any form of harm, threats, intimidation and attacks that may arise as a result of the nature of their work,"

At the same time, the LSK has also called upon the Interior CS to heighten security in the Country especially during the festive seasons, raising concerns on the increased cases of insecurity in the Country.

Mr. Nyakeri's murder was reported at Ole Kasasi Police Station in Ongata Rongai and awaits investigations.
