LSK adamant Nkaissery, Boinnet must resign as lawyers mass held

A joint requiem mass for lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri, who were allegedly murdered by police, was held on Friday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi.

Speaking during requiem mass, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Isaac Okero demanded for the resignation of Interior Cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaiserry and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet over what he termed as their inability to adequately address rising cases of extrajudicial killings.

The ceremony comes ahead of Kimani’s burial Saturday in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

“We must do all we can to destroy this monster that has claimed the life of our brother. I reiterate the call by the council of LSK demanding the three top officials in charge of the internal security of our country accept moral and political responsibility for the continued existence of this monster,” said Okero.

Meanwhile, the deceased’ families, led by James Mburu, have called on perpetrators of the heinous act to seek for forgiveness from God, even as they also demand the government to take action against all those involved.

“The three families represented here today, trust in a God who is never moved. We believe that the perpetrators of this heinous act can seek forgiveness from God. Our God is just. He shall surely forgive all trespasses,” said Mburu.

Four police officers; Sergeant Fredrick Leliman, Sergeant Leonard Mwangi, Corporal Stephen Chebulet and Constable Silvia Wanjiku, have since been arrested over the murder, and will remain in custody until the July 18th when their case will be mentioned.
