Lawyer Philip Murgor says former MP insulted, threatened him at Tob Cohen burial

Lawyer Philip Murgor has accused former Gatundu North Member of Parliament Patrick Muiruri of threatening and insulting him at the burial of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen on Tuesday.

In a letter addressed to the Parklands Police Station OCS, Murgor claims that Muiruri confronted him and uttered an unprintable insult before shouting: “I will deal with you outside.”

According to Murgor, the altercation occurred after he asked Muiruri’s daughter to leave the Jewish cemetery where Cohen was being buried, as the event was restricted to family members only.

“At the funeral of the late Tob Cohen, I was confronted by one Patrick Muiruri, a Kiambu politician who menacingly shouted at me not to pick on his daughter , but on him if I wanted a confrontation. Earlier on instructions from my client, I had politely requested the daughter of Muiruri to leave the cemetery as the funeral was agreed to be a private ceremony for family only,” Murgor says in the letter dated September 25, 2019.

“Thereafter, he insulted me and shouted: ‘I will deal with you outside.’ As he advanced towards me, he was restrained by Mr. Chege Kirundi, and Mr Cliff Ombeta – Advocates who luckily were on hand. The incident was witnessed by George Ouma, an advocate.”

Murgor claims that the said outburst by the Kiambu politician is an attempt to intimidate him as the lawyer for Sarah Wairimu Cohen, who is the key suspect in the murder of her late husband.

“Given the unexplained role, interest and positions taken by Mr. Muiruri in the case facing my client Sarah Cohen, I take this outburst as a threat in an attempt to intimidate me as an advocate for Mrs Cohen. I have therefore taken the decision to record my complaint with yourself, and ask that you immediately commence investigation regarding the intentions of and the threats.”

The former MP says the late Tob Cohen was his friend of over 30 years and claims to have spoken with the deceased before he went missing and was later found dead.

“Tob Cohen has been my friend for close to 30 years. On the night he was murdered I spoke to him and he was very concerned about his life. He never hid the fact that if anything happens to him, Sarah his wife would be responsible,” claimed Muiruri when Cohen’s body was recovered on September 13.
