Laikipia MCA charged in court with theft, destruction of property

A Laikipia Member of County Assembly was on Thursday arraigned in a Nanyuki court where he was charged with vandalism and theft of property.

Thingitu Ward MCA Stephen Nderitu, also known as Kagondu, denied the charges and was released on a Ksh.50, 000  bond or a cash bail of Ksh.250, 000.

The ward representative got into trouble after he led local residents into invading private property on December 8, 2017, claiming the land had been grabbed by a private developer.

Nderitu’s colleagues; Robert Murage of Ngobit Ward and Nominated MCA Patricia Muthoni, however, defended him saying he was only protecting public property from being embezzled by private proprietors .

“We will not be cowed, after Kagondu is released we will proceed with demolishing all fences placed by private proprietors because those lands belong to the people,” said Murage.

The two issued a stern warning to the public to shun away from illegally acquiring public property.
