KRA impounds 631 drumsof ethanolworth over Ksh.55 million in Nairobi

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has impounded 631 drums with over 157,000 litres of ethanol worth an estimated tax value of Ksh.55,014,173 at a go-down in Viken Thirty Industrial Park on the Eastern by-pass in Nairobi County.

The ethanol was intercepted on September 7, 2021, during an operation conducted by KRA officers acting on intelligence.

Customs Investigations and Revenue Protection Service officers as well as sleuths from the DCI rushed to the scene and verified the goods.

Two suspects, who were found inside the go-down, namely Martin Nganga Mwangi and Julius Njoroge Mburu were arrested and are set to be arraigned in court after completion of investigations.

KRA, in a statement to newsrooms, said punishment upon conviction for the offence of being in possession of uncustomed goods is imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to a fine equal to 50 per cent of the dutiable value of the goods involved, or both.
