KOT ungovernable as Dennis Itumbi claims he was beaten by 18 cops

Last evening, Dennis Itumbi joined a caucus of MPs at the Kilimani Police station to agitate for the release of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

Kuria was arrested earlier on Friday after a woman claimed that he had assaulted her on December 8.

However, in a surprising turn of events, police officers lobbed teargas at the MPs with Itumbi claiming that he was clobbered by 18 men in uniform.

Led by  Kandara MP Alice Wahome  the MPs stormed the police station demanding for Kuria’s immediate release prompting the police to lob teargas.

The MPs were armed with a court order for the release of the MP after his lawyers obtained a Ksh.50,000 cash bail after application before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate, Kennedy Cheruiyot.

In a video that went viral on Saturday, January 11 Itumbi claimed that he had gone to pick his car from the police station when police officers pounced on him.

“Wamenichapa, they have really hit me, yaani policemen, 18 of them I was just going in to get back my car, 18 policemen rained blows, they start kicking, what kind of people are these” He said in the video.

In the video, Itumbi shirt was wet and missing some buttons.

In a different Tweet later in the night, he told his followers that he had already been treated and would renew his push for Moses Kuria’s release on Saturday.

Kenyans online took to Twitter after the video was shared with differing opinions on the matter.  Below are some of their responses:
