Man takes poison after wife allegedly kills his suspected lover in Kirinyaga

A 37-year-old woman was on Saturday killed while her daughter watched in what is suspected to have been a love triangle gone sour at Kwa V trading centre in Mutithi ward, Kirinyaga County.

Beatrice Onyango died after she was reportedly stabbed eight times by Mary Njeri who accused the deceased of having a secret love affair with her husband.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the deceased’s daughter – Alice Akinyi, 23 – said she was in her house when she heard her mother’s screams and, upon coming out, found Njeri committing the act.

Akinyi said she tried to help her mother but the suspect turned on her and chased her around with the knife in an attempt to stab her as well.

Confirming the incident, area Assistant Chief Christina Gathoni Muriithi said she arrived on scene after being called by the deceased’s daughter, adding that the suspect fled on a motorcycle.

Ms. Muriithi further added that the suspect’s husband and the man at the center of the suspected love triangle, John Simba, consumed poison in an attempt to commit suicide after being informed of the incident.

Simba has since been rushed to the Kerugoya Refferral Hospital in serious condition; the body of the deceased was also taken to the same facility’s mortuary pending postmortem as police launch investigations.
