Kirinyaga: Body of unidentified man found dumped in river

The body of an unidentified man was on Friday discovered in Rwamuthambi River at Getuya village in Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga County.

Area residents stumbled across the man's remains while fetching water from the river before notifying relevant authorities who made their way to the scene and processed it.

"I was just passing by when one of my neighbours informed me that there was a body in the river, and after I arrived at the scene we confirmed it was the body of a man. We immediately informed the authorities," Peter Warui, a resident, told Citizen Digital.

Residents believe that the man was killed elsewhere before his remains were dumped in the river.

"We are suspicious that the man could have been killed elsewhere and dumped here. The area is bushy, and we hope detectives will reveal more after investigations. We don't know why anyone would kill and dump a human being here," another resident said.

Police have since moved the body to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.
