Kidero son charged over alleged adulterated fuel at Kiambu Road station

Ronald Odhiambo Kidero, son to former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, was arraigned in court on Friday.

He has been charged with one count of storing petroleum products that did not pass the Kenya Bureau of Standards requirements.

“On August 3, 2018 at Ridgeways Shell petrol station, along Kiambu Road in Nairobi, the accused, jointly with others before Court was found to have stored petroleum products namely diesel and motor vehicle gasoline in two petroleum storage tanks,” the charge sheet reads.

Odhiambo appeared before Chief magistrate Francis Andayito and was charged with being in possession of 14,000 liters of petrol and 28,000 liters of diesel all of which were substandard.

The fuel in question has however already been sold to unsuspecting motorists, the Prosecution revealed.

The court was further told that closure of the petrol station can only be done by the Energy Regulatory Commission who are not parties in this matter.

The Prosecution also wants Vivo Energy Kenya directors to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for investigations on the said fuel.

Lawyers representing Vivo however insisted that the fuel they supply is of good quality and they have taken samples of it for investigations.

They further stated that detectives cannot summon Vivo directors; according to them, it is only ERC who can do so as the regulators of fuel supplied in the country.

The advocates urged the court to allow them engage the commission to handle the matter.

Ronad Kidero was then released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.

The case will be mentioned on August 23 while the hearing is slated for September 4, 2018.
