Kidero, Khalwale supporters clash at Milimani court

There was a standoff at the Milimani law courts in Nairobi after supporters of Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero and those of Kakamega Senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale clashed during the proceedings of a defamation case filed by Kidero against Khalwale.

It took the intervention of the police, who lobbed teargas in the air, to disperse the rowdy youths who had started pelting stones at each other.

After successfully containing the confrontations, police ordered the two groups to leave the court’s premises using seperate routes to avoid further clashes.

The confrontations started immediately after Dr. Kidero secured fresh temporary orders from the High Court restraining the Kakamega Senator from making any remarks linking him (Kidero) to Mumias Sugar Limited financial crisis.

Kidero had sued Khalwale for allegedly defaming him by directly linking him to the collapse of Mumias Sugar Company.

Temporary orders issued by the court restraining Khalwale from further commenting on the Mumias Sugar issue lapsed on July 1st after Kidero failed to serve the Senator.

The case will be heard on August 14th, 2015.

Khalwale and Kidero have been at loggerheads since he (Khalwale) made the allegations linking the governor to the collapse of the giant sugar miller.

In his speech during President Kenyatta’s visit at the company last month, Khalwale labeled Kidero the “prefect of corruption” saying the financial crisis facing Mumias Sugar was as a result of his poor management.
