Kiambu youth urged to embrace technology in farming

The County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture in Kiambu County, Monicah Waiganjo, has urged the young generation to embrace new technology in fish farming to improve productivity.

Speaking as she toured the fish projects in Kiambu County on Sunday, November 2o, Ms Waiganjo said that the youth are still looking for white-collar jobs despite devolution opening new opportunities for them in farming and other sectors.

According to Waiganjo, the department of agriculture sets aside Ksh 10 million shillings every year for re-fertilizing fish during the Economic Stimulus Programs which include setting up of training centers in every Sub County.

“Fish farming  is the best in a densely populated area like Kiambu where there is scarcity of land, you can do the farming in a quarter an acre  land or even in your rented house, all you need is a small tank and it can hold over 1,000 fish,” she said.

She encouraged the people of Kiambu to start eating fish saying they are the best alternative source of protein and help reduce diseases especially in old age.
