Kiambu: 74 minors rescued from pathetic environment at childrens home

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rescued 74 minors and arrested the director in charge of a children’s home in Kiambu County.

Ms. Pauline Wambui, Director of Young Dreams Children’s Home was reportedly charged on Thursday.

“Upon receiving complaint letters from children’s officers in Juja on the pathetic environment of children at the Young Dream Children’s Home, DCI Detectives acted swiftly and rescued 74 children,” the DCI said.

Reports indicate that the DCI received complaint letters through the Children Rights Officers based in Juja.

Investigations are expected to establish whether due process was followed in transferring the children from their original home.

It has emerged that the Young Dreams Children’s Home where they were taken to is unregistered.

Cases of children’s home hitting headlines over questionable conditions have lately been on the rise.

In March this year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reportedly launched investigations into an American couple who fled Kenya after allegations that they had been colluding to molest children at a home in Bomet County.

According to the Daily Nation, an arrest warrant has been issued for Gregory Dow and his wife Mary Rose.

They were operating the Dow Family Children’s Home in Bomet that has since been shut down.

In Machakos, a 23-year-old man was arraigned after he was accused of sodomising nine boys at the Martyrs of Uganda Children’s Home.

David Mutuku Katuku pleaded guilty in the first charge but denied he had sodomised the other 8 victims.
