Khalwale: MP Oscar Sudi is being victimized for being a Ruto ally

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale claims Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi is being victimized for his academic credentials because of his allegiance to  Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.

“The only reason why the Kapseret MP is undergoing this prosecution and persecution is that he is associated with the Deputy President,” said Khalwale.

Khalwale who was speaking Thursday on Citizen TV’s Day Break, also called out the court, saying other leaders have not been undergone the treatment Sudi has.

“Courts have made a statement on education, or lack of it, by the Governor of Mombasa, Joho. He has never been subjected to this kind of trial in the court of public opinion. It is a waste of time,” said Khalwale.

The former Senator further stated that he does not believe it is necessary for an MP to have a degree.

“... Their role is oversight. What they need is the ability to read and write. Once somebody is equipped with those, the parliamentary support system gives back-up to the Mp and they can do a good job,” he said.

“Who really should have a degree? When the drafters of the constitution gave a considered opinion, they found that it was necessary for the governor and the president to have a degree, along with their deputies. I support that.”

“One of the great leaders from the Kamba communities was Mulu Mutisya. I don’t think he had a degree. Oloitiptip was a minister and a very effective one; he did not have a degree. We had people like Njenga Karume... Martin Shikuku... Tom Mboya... Josiah Mwangi Kariuki... and yet in history they are the greatest leaders we have had in public,” added Khalwale.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has an ongoing court case where he is accused of using  fake high school and college certificates.

On Wednesday, Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Principal Examinations Secretary Nabiki Ene Kashu told magistrate Felix Kombo that Sudi did not register or sit the 2006 KCSE examination at Highway Secondary School in Nairobi.

She testified that the purported certificate presented to KNEC by Sudi for verification was a forged document.

A former employee at the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) further told the court that Sudi never registered as a student of the institute, adding that the diploma certificate Sudi claims was issued by the institute is not a genuine document.
